Candidates to get two attempts in UPSC civil service exams

Looking at the demand of civil service aspirants to adapt the changes in Civil Service examination in March 2013, government approved two additional attempts for candidates from this year.

This relaxation has comes a relief for lakhs of aspirants who were quite aggrieved by sudden changes in pattern for Civil Service Main exam 2013. Earlier last year, UPSC notified of revised pattern on March 5 last year that will double the number of papers for General Studies and increase its weightage vis-a-vis optional subjects, months ahead of the Mains 2013 exam.

Recently, group of civil services aspirants protested outside Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's residence against the short notice given to them to adapt to the "drastic changes" in the Mains exam pattern and demanded 3 extra attempts and relaxation of three years in the age limit.

With 2 extra attempts, Civil services candidates, who now get just four attempts to write the prestigious exam, will now get six attempts.

This year, Civil Service Preliminary exam is scheduled on August 24, 2014.
