About American College Testing

American College Testing (ACT) is entrance test conducted for students who want to seek admission in UG courses in USA. The test consists of four tests; English, Maths, Reading, Science and Writing. The test was first conducted in 1959 and has become popular since then. The scores of ACT are accepted by all four year colleges and universities across USA. 

Besides, ACT scores, universities in USA also prefer Letter of Recommendation, Statement of Purpose for as selection criteria. The test is designed and conducted by ACT Inc to measures students’ ability about educational development and college work.

Period of ACT:

The examination is conducted 5 times in a year. It is conducted in the month of February, April, June, September and December. The basic qualification to apply for this exam is 10+2 from recognized college.

Applying for ACT:

The deadline for the application of ACT test date is scheduled 5 weeks before. All the registration materials are offered by the schools counselor and even from the official website of ACT Inc.

Exam Details:

English: 75 multiple choice questions, 45 minutes, Tests grammar, punctuation, sentence structure and rhetorical skills.

Math: 60 multiple choice questions, 60 minutes, Algebra I and II, Geometry and some Trigonometry.

Reading: 40 multiple choice questions, 35 minutes, Four passages (prose fiction, social studies, humanities and natural sciences) with 10 questions per passage

Science: 40 multiple choice questions, 35 minutes, Questions on Science based passages presented with graphs, charts, tables and research summaries

Writing: Writing Test optional, 1 essay, 30 minutes

Scoring Pattern for ACT:

On each test, students will earn one ACT score (1 to 36) on the test and composite ACT score. The test also includes optional essay, which is a writing test where students will get sub-score and combined English writing score.

Reschedule of AIBE-VI Exam

The Bar Council of India (BCI) has announced the reschedule of All India Bar Examination (AIBE) from 22^nd December to 19^th January, 2014.

AIBE exam is mandatory for all law graduates and want to qualify for advocates.

Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai has announced the admission notification for PGPM & PGDM for the year 2014.The duration of PGPM is 1 yr and PGDM is 2 yrs.

Eligibility criteria:

• Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized institute with minimum 50% marks.
• Candidates applying for any of the course should have minimum 2 years of work experience as on March 31, 2014.

Selection Procedure:

Maharashtra TET 2013 Exam Notification

Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (MH TET) 2013 has been scheduled on 15^th December, 2013 conducted by National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE). The syllabus for the examination will be based on secondary and higher secondary school education.

Eligibility Criteria:

·         Candidate should have acquired professional qualifications specified by Government of Maharashtra Resolution dated 13^th February, 2013.

·         Candidate pursuing any of the teacher education courses (recognized by the appropriate authority, as the case may be) specified in the Maharashtra Resolution dated 13 Feb. 2013.

·         Candidate need to score 60% or more in the TET exam will be considered as TET pass.

·         Candidate belonging to SC, ST, VJ, NT, OBC, differently abled persons, who scores 55% or more in the TET exam will be considered as TET pass.

Exam structure:

·         Candidate have to go through Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), each carrying one mark, with four alternatives out of which one answer will be correct.

·         No negative marking

·         Candidate has to complete two papers of the TET. Paper I will be for a person who intends to be a teacher for classes I to V. Paper II will be for a person who intends to be a teacher for classes VI to VIII. A person who intends to be a teacher either for classes I to V or for classes VI to VIII will have to appear in both papers (Paper I and Paper II).

Indian students among increasing enrollment in US College- Report

According to the recent report released by New York based International Education, more than 800,000 international students, nearly half of them from China, India and South Korea, were enrolled in a U.S. college or university last year, a 7.2% increase over the previous year.

Students are travelling in both directions. The report says, 819,644 international students enrolled in U.S. institutions during the 2012-13 academic year pumped more than $24 billion into the economy. American students studying abroad increased 3.4%, to an all-time high of 283,332, in 2011-12. 

Colleges trying to build an international reputation view it as a way to increase diversity on their campuses and revenue. Foreign students typically pay a higher non-resident tuition at public universities compare to U.S. students. 

Brian Whalen, president of the Forum on Education Abroad, says a small but growing number of universities are starting to keep track of those experiences.

"Our understanding of educational experiences abroad is expanding, and there are more opportunities for students beyond the traditional study abroad for academic credit," he said.

The report included more points:

·         China is the frontrunner in sending students to the USA, including 235,597 last year, up 21.4% from the year before.

·         Counting also came from Saudi Arabia by sending 44,566 students and are largely funded by a Saudi government scholarship program.

·         Brazil too has increased the students count by 20.4%, largely because of a new government scholarship program for undergraduates.

The report doesn't count U.S. students because they use volunteer work, research or non-credit internships in their academic year.
