IGNOU to begin UG Programmes for Sex Workers



Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is planning to begin UG programmes for sex workers in Nagpur region. The similar course will commence in Ahmedabad and Kolkata. 

Officials of Nagpur center are in talks with Indian Red Cross Society. In fact, the society has already given its nod to conduct classes for commercial workers in its premises.  The center also wants to include local NGOs to participate and convince sex workers to join the programme.

This initiative was taken to help CSWs to improve their livelihood and be independent in future. Moreover, they can even educate their children for better future.

Other programmes on offer by the varsity are MBA courses offered at the Nagpur Central Jail, short-term training programmes offered to tribal women in Gadchiroli area as well as other courses which are offered to the deprived sections of society.
